Volkswagen Tiguan Canada
The Volkswagen Tiguan is a compact SUV built by Volkswagen since 2007, based on the success of the mid-sized SUV Volkswagen Touareg which arrived to Canada in 2004, Volkswagen designed a smaller crossover CUV (compact utility vehicle) based on the Volkswagen Golf platform which is also used by the VW Jetta and Audi A3. The Tiguan made its debut in 2006 at the International AutoShow in Los Angeles, the VW Tiguan officially arrived to Canadian dealers in the spring of 2008 as a 2009 Tiguan model.
The Volkswagen Tiguan broke estimated sales records worldwide with close to 1 million sold by 2012, the compact and versatile approach marketed by Volkswagen in Canada made it an easy favorite with VW fans and new Volkswagen owners. All Tiguans are equipped with a 4-cylinder TSI 2.0L engine, while in Europe they are available with an optional diesel 2.0L TDS (turbo diesel injection) engine. The more fuel efficient Tiguan compared to the V6 3.5L engine on the Touareg makes it an obvious choice with the price of gas in Canada.
The 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan in Canada is available in three trims; the standard Tiguan Trendline, the Tiguan Comfortline which adds 6-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic and sport mode FWD, with an optional premium audio system with 6.5" touch screen navigation system and SIRIUS Satellite Radio, while the fully loaded Tiguan Highline includes Volkswagen's 4MOTION all-wheel drive with adaptive torque distribution. All three 2012 Tiguan's share a 2.0L turbocharged, in-line 4-cylinder engine with intercooler and direct injection, improving fuel efficiency and increasing torque.
